The miseries of cycling to work ... (see yesterday's entry)

Well I suppose I was asking for it, by waxing lyrical about the beautiful morning yesterday ...
This morning I left at the normal time (8.00) because I was hoping the rain might stop - no such luck! It poured all the way. Fortunately I have the right gear ("There's no such thing as bad weather; only the wrong clothes" Billy Connolly), so although my waterproof jacket and trousers were dripping by the time I got to the office (had to avoid wetting the newly photocopied Cambridge Application Forms which are piled all over the floor!), the inside clothes were quite dry.
Couldn't help smiling at the contrast though: could hardly see across a deserted and gloomy Parkers Piece, every set of traffic lights seemed to be against me so I got even wetter waiting for the lights to change, all the trees on Sidgwick Avenue dripped on me to add to the deluge ... etc.
However, by lunchtime it had cleared up again and it was dry when I left work (on time - 4pm on Fridays - hurray!). Dropped in to the Arts Picturehouse cafe for tea and cake, and it was still light passing Parkers Piece on the way home. It was full of activity: someone flying a kite, people playing football, and a group of (presumably) University students about to start a game of lacrosse.
Must get on with the household chores tomorrow, because on Sunday my calligraphy class is having a class trip to the British Library to look at manuscripts - should be fun!
