I woke up early, but as I was refreshed, I got up. I dreamed a pretty female psychiatrist asked me "When are you going to ask me to marry you?" Weird, eh? That's probably got a name.
It looks like it's gonna be another beautiful day. I must go to get a haircut for the Jo'burg trip, and check the PO Box where I'm expecting a parcel of Aphrodite's Child CDs Chris sent me.
Sent someone (Hello Misty!) in the UK a book on the 1st, and it arrived yesterday, on the 5th. That's pretty good going - it seems to take a lot longer for things to get here from the UK though.
The flat has these little house-flies buzzing around.
I made my tea but left it too long on the counter, with the result that after I put the milk in, it was too cold. I gulped it down, and it is working its magic, but ideally one must catch the tea at the precise ideal temperature, which is quite hot, but not too hot. I haven't found a sure-fire way of catching it at the right temperature. Maybe I should get a stopwatch and do time trials. After all, the constant is the boiling water you start off with, so in theory every cup should take the same period of time to cool down to the ideal temperature. That would add a whole new dimension to my tea-making, which at the moment is pretty haphazard from the POV of catching it at the right temperature.
I'm learning from Henry that friendship is a skill, and that the Xhosas have this skill refined down to the finest of arts. Xhosas imagine the world of people entirely differently from Westerners. We are brought up on "I think therefore I am", whereas they say "A person is a person through people". (Have I mentioned this before? Anyway it's true, and it explains a lot about why I love living here so much.)

Went for a haircut. (Song 3:10b). Was sitting out on the pavement in the sunshine at Julian's, when Elsje came walking up - she's my attorney, I've known her since 1994/5. She wished me a happy Christmas.
It's a fantastic hot day.
Went to Gospel Direct to order a study bible for Jan in Upington. Bought a CD of "The Mighty Clouds of Joy", a black Gospel outfit - nice 'n' funky, just how I like it.
Now I'm going to walk back into town to send the MS of my Ecclesiastes book to Meen Bonkers in Germany.

It was a nice day... about 23/4 degrees max, so not hot, but nice.
Henry came round in the afternoon and we went to the Neelsie (Stellenbosch University student centre) for some cheap beers served by a very pretty, but very stand-offish young waitress, doing a degree in Human Resources Management.
I see Down The Line is on in a minute - so will listen to that, internet weather permitting.
It's a bit late now to go out for it, but I could murder a large bottle of Ice Tea. I don't have any lemons, so I can't really make my own, though this is a project I've had in mind since last summer. Ice Tea made with a mixture of Earl Grey and Rooibos, with lemon and a touch of honey. Mmm-mmm. Well, failing that, I'll just have to put the kettle on!
I'm getting garbled noises coming out of the computer instead of Radio 4. Oh it's working now... 'someone' has just phoned in wanting to talk about 'religion' ... excellent! Snork, it's quite funny. Oh, it's still on about religion. Ah, it's a repeat.

Interestingly, it's not nearly as funny as it was the first time, when I didn't realise it was a spoof.

Instead of drinking another bottle of wine (still not fully recover'd from the excesses of a few nights ago) I have made a pot of experimental tea, which I'm sharing out at Iva's party over at Peet's.
It's Rooibos & Camomile with a dash of Rose Syrup. I haven't tasted it yet - it's still brewing - but I've got my yellow Archers Addicts mug to drink it out of (although some elegant tea-glasses would be better, with a sprig of mint).

Very amusing, Dag. It's called a "Bookmarklet" (because it's like an "applet" you can store as a browser "bookmark").
Info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bookmarklet
Prompted by that, I decided to write my own:
javascript:gp=function(e,oR){var n,p={x:0,y:0};p.x=e.offsetLeft;p.y=e.offsetTop;n=e;while(n.offsetParent && (n.offsetParent!=oR)){n=n.offsetParent;p.x+=n.offsetLeft;p.y+=n.offsetTop;}return p;};gr=function(e,oR){var p,r={l:0,t:0,r:0,b:0};p=gp(e, oR);r.l=p.x;r.t=p.y;r.r=r.l+e.offsetWidth-1;r.b=r.t+e.offsetHeight-1;return r;};gmx=function(){return window.scrollX || document.body.scrollLeft;};gmy=function(){return window.scrollY || document.body.scrollTop;};oa=function(e){this.a=e;this.r=gr(e,document);this.oop=document.defaultView.getComputedStyle(e,null).opacity;this.cop=this.oop;};f=function(e){var i,ao,r,d,d1,d2,dx,dy,mx=e.clientX+gmx(),my=e.clientY+gmy();for(i=0;i=r.l) && (mx<=r.r)){dx=0;}else{d1=mx-r.l;d2=mx-r.r;dx=Math.min(d1*d1,d2*d2);}if((my>=r.t) && (my<=r.b)){dy=0;}else{d1=my-r.t;d2=my-r.b;dy=Math.min(d1*d1,d2*d2);}d=Math.sqrt(dx+dy);if(d>100){d=100}ao.a.style.opacity=ao.oop*d/100;ao.a.style.visibility=(d···{

All that does is make clickable links disappear when you move the mouse over them - is that the only thing it's meant to do?

Oh yes.. but it does fade them out nicely as you approach them.
It reminded me of something that happens to one of the characters in one of Douglas Adams's (non h2g2) books... where the each streetlight in turn winks off as the character approaches and comes back on again as she walks on.
