Incorrect spelling of "Doughnut"
Andy R.... East London, Guitar, Cider, Europe, Ponds, Usenet, China Started conversation Jun 27, 2002
The smiley for doughnut doesn't work because it's mispelled both in the description and the longcode as "donut".
Also, Does it really have to have that yucky pink icing?
I bet you can tell I have important things I should be doing right now

So you know, "donut" is now an accepted spelling of the word doughnut. Americans are lazy and it caught on.

I dunno, try to make h2g2 pink and fluffy, and all we get is complaints.
Although I'd love a nice cappuchino doughnut. Mmmm....

In case you don't feel like looking back at the postings, I was the one that said Americans are lazy. I am an American. I'm not saying we're all lazy, but we do take a lot of short cuts.
I personally like an apple cinnamon donut with a glass of orange juice. mmm...

This seems to be a case of selective enforcement.
When I did an article and consistantly wrote dates as
AD 1 AD 2 the editors changed them to 1 AD 2 AD with a footnote that they had to follow their editorial policies.
well how about this editorial policy from
<./>SubEditors-Style</.> Major things
................Use British English Spelling rather than American English Spelling. If that is editorial policy you should follow it. PS. I am an American.

*pompous on* () If you look closely at the link you supply Shagbark, you'll see that it is titled 'English useage in the Edited Guide'. Yes, that's right, *Edited*. And smileys aren't allowed in The Edited Guide, so it doesn't break any guidelines at all. So
*pompous off*
How's that? I told you it sounded pompous. And I've added childish for good measure.

I am aware of the existence of other homers, but when it comes to s there is really no need to question which is moe relevant.

An Ambling Rambler Posted Jul 26, 2002
Mmm... do(ugh)nut... hmm, wait, looking at the letters... well, whatever, that's pure coincidental irrelevance. I'm American but half-Chinese, lazy, and prefer 'donut.' (As well as the single quote... that does take less effort, when you think about it.) I like creme-filled donuts, which don't have holes. Go figure.
