Picking some of the minority parties is especially interesting. I didn't realise, for example, that UKIP is opposed to anti-terror laws and seem to have quite progressive tax ideas, or that the Tories want to extend maternity leave.

Blackberry Cat , if one wishes to remain an individual in the midst of the teeming multitudes, one must make oneself grotesque

all the main parties say they want to extend the period of paid maternity leave, Labour even want to allow fathers to take some of it

promises, promises

This is pretty nifty.

This is pretty good ~ easier then most to get a simple at a glance idea of policy.

Anyone see this seat calculator: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/vote2005/seatcalculator/html/default.stm

Even if all three parties got an equal share of the vote (not including others) then Labour would still have an overall majority of 16 seats!

ahh the joys of the first past the post system..

Does anyone think that some form of Proportional Representation could give us better representation?

God yes!! We've got a version in Scotland and it means a vote for a minority party like the Greens (or the Toriessmiley - winkeye) isn't wasted. Then the parties would stop fighting over the centre ground and we might have 'clear blue water' between them.

Ain't gonna happen though, unless there are about 10 hung parliaments in a row and it's the only way for Labour and the Lib/Dems to keep the Tories out.

This is pretty nifty.

I've always though that keeping first past the post for the lower house is good idea but that we should elect the upper house using PR smiley - smiley

This map is pretty good at showing why Labour gets so many seats without a country wide majority

"Then the parties would stop fighting over the centre ground and we might have 'clear blue water' between them."

However, it seems to have made the clear blue water between the Lib Dems and Labour drain away somewhat up here. A pity, as I would consider voting for the LDs otherwise.

This is pretty nifty.
