No worries - I hope you and your friends enjoy all that is h2g2! 
If you have any questions, feel free to ask - I don't know everything, but I do know a man who can! 
I've been lurking in the 'Reading room/nightshift' convo and having fun watching you all have fun, if that makes sense...
When I joined h2g2 about 18 months ago I did exactly the same (we were chucked off another BBC board where we played games and chatted) and then I got heavily involved here. I now spend about 4-5 hours a day on this site, sad I know, but that's just how addictive it can be.
Most of us write here, so all your friends who love to read may well move on to that - if they don't no problem, but I'd encourage them to have a good nosey around the site when they have got their feet. There is much to see!
