What always suprises me is how many ideas writers get from religion. No, i'm not talking about our modern day religons but ancient mythology. More and more i notice these small civilization's beleifs and costums and gods being used in yet another fantasy story.
As for caffine. If there is anything magical in the world now that humans use it is deffinatly caffine.

Did anyone read the picture book that says dragons are sleeping under every hill... it's the mound of the dragon's back that makes the hill rounded. This may sound strange, but think about it the next time you look at a hill! It works very well... and there's the whole volcano thing to consider... woken up from a peaceful nap?
By the way, I'm pretty sure The Hero and the Crown was written by Robin McKinely, whose name I think I spelled wrong, but who is a terrific writer nonetheless. Also check out the Talking to Dragons series by Patricia Wrede... a lot of fun, and the dragons certainly have distinct and separate personalities! It's the wizards who are stereotyped...

There was a good series of books I read a while ago. The first one was called "The Dragon and the George" I think, but I can't remember who wrote them.
