the writer Erik Jendresen (known from the tv serie "band of brothers") who says in interview that he was commissioned by paramount to write the 11th star trek movie with a complete new cast. the story will be between star trek enterprise and the orginal serie.

next year it will be 40 yrs of star trek!

Well, if all that is true then it sounds like it will be a great film.

I wish they'd set the film much further in the future - after the end of Next Gen, DS9 and Voyager. It would make it all so unexpected. Fresh and new! If I was being greedy I'd say - forget the film and make a new, and this time proper, telly series. If only

Well it should be a good film then. I know a lot of people might complain that we don't know who these new characters are, but that can be said of nearly every film!

films of series is always problem....

best example is Buffy, the vampire the movie was not big success, but series launched range of other mainstream cult series. I have add this comment that Buffy was not sole instigator, the other was x-files.

A series in the future just means more flashes and different weapons, whereas setting it further back means that the crew is faced with different, newer problems. It'll be interesting to see if they resolve the klingon head thing.

I only recently was able to see Enterprise episodes. Sad as it only has a month to go. I saw an episode where they seem to explain the Klingon Head Thing. Fascinating. I think the time period for the new movie will give them lots of room for filling in the history. A guy (no name, not near my book shelf)wrote a great story about pre-Enterprise, pre-Starfleet. There were 2 books I think and I never found the third.
They used Daedalus(spelling?) class ships. Very cowboy. I love to read references to things in the 'future'. To see their origin, that is.

not forgetting the purple blood issue..

The purple blood issue was purely to make sure that the movie was PG and not 13s. I think it shows a major problem in our society in that we don't mind seeing alien blood, but if it looks like human blood then it's not allowed.
