As a small response to Wowbaggers well-drawn, biased, excellent, cartoon strip in this weeks h2g2 Post (April 3), I submit this.
New Zealand's 5-0 America's Cup win over Italy's Prada team was a remarkable feat (Time Magazine March 31.) Even more astounding, however, is that a country with a population of less than 4 million can design, build and operate machines that are the aquatic version of the Space Shuttle. By giving 5-0 hidings to its opponents in both Auckland and San Diego, Team New Zealand has shown that it is so far ahead of the competition as to be virtually unbeatable. The next America's Cup series will be held in Auckland, beginning in late 2002. Catch us if you can! "The America's Cup is still New Zealand's Cup." Perhaps it is time to rename it.
As an aside, the guy who funded the Aus challenge when they won it in the 80s (but never defended it), Alan Bond, is in jail.

I have already said it privately to Grahame on several occaisions but I shall do it now publically.
Full congratulations to the fantastic New Zealand crew for their well-earned victory in the America's Cup.
If we can't win it, then NZ deserves it.

Woh ho. If only I had the last two presentation speeches. We could start to advertise the award ceremony.

In breaking news, New Zealand horse-racing legend Phar Lap has been honoured with the issue of two new Australian $5 collectors' coins to mark the 70th anniversary of his Melbourne Cup victory.
And we invented the pavlova.
