This is an excellent piece! I wish I had done as good a job with my first entry! Well done!
Was he born in Detroit? It seems implicit, but maybe it should be mentioned more explicitly.
One thing that I would love to see towards the end of your entry is something about the man himself - his likes and loves, any problems or difficulties he might have had, any campaigns he might have associated himself with. Something that tells us a bit more about him, quite apart from his extraordinary accomplishments.
Well done again - I loved it.

This is an excellent entry. I've only two minor suggestions:
In the section "The Wonder Years", you start two sentences with "But". Each of these would be better without that word.
Near the end you say '90s. By h2g2 convention, this should be 1990s.

Thanks loads for such a nice first review. All your handy hints have been logged, and hopefully the piece will be whipped into shape sometime soon...
Oh, and he was born in a place called Saginaw, and moved to Detroit five years later - that'll be going in....

Well spotted Gnomon!!... when I said they HAD been dealt with, what I really meant is they WILL be dealt with. But I didn't say that. But that's what I meant.
