I had an appointment to see the Rheumatologist Specialist in conjunction with the Hand & Shoulder specialist at the beginning of December 04 - it was cancelled 1 day before: the Rheumatologist couldn't make it ... January was no good because the Hand/Shoulder specilist chap was away ... so a fresh appointment was made for tomorrow: 4 February.
I have just received a phone call ... "Did I receive the cancellation letter", I replied that I had, and would be along tomorrow. "Oh no, a separate letter cancelling tomorrow". I replied NO. My husband called up, saying the post had just arrived & therein was a letter from the hospital ... guess what? ... cancelling tomorrow!
Why this time I asked. "The Hand/Shoulder specialist can't be there, so would 11th March be convenient?" I pointed out that it was the day of my birthday & I had to be out in the evening, but that I can't afford to leave it any longer, so yes that would be fine. "I could make another day, but you would only see one of them." The whole point is to see the 2 together as there are complications.
I have geared myself up to going tomorrow - have come off the painkillers so nothing has been masked and now, at the last minute, it is cancelled yet again. 
Our friend is waiting for a heart operation - he was due to go in & the day before it was cancelled - he is still waiting 3 months later & is unable to work because of an irregular heartbeat. They have stopped & restarted his heart 3 times now, but it has not sorted out the problem. The op is to give him a pacemaker. The main worry for this man is that his father died from the same thing at his age.
My appointment/forthcoming ops are not life threatening, but my life is extremely uncomfortable as I am now.
I suppose the usual sarcastic remark about all this would be something along the lines of: "He must have an important golf match", but somehow I don't think THAT is the excuse 
Feel better for getting that down - now I'll phone my mother & rant at her about it
