Hi,
I do appreciate your note. Unfortunately I find this site so confusing that I seem to just dip in, wander arround for a time, and then go to bed with an ice pack and a tot of single malt.
My learning style is to play first, reflect second, read third, then play again.
I think I need to dive in on a conversation.
I need to know how to do this, I still have not worked it out.
I understand about postings and threads from other forums on the net. But on this site I cannot find the button to push.
How do I get a list of current conversations, and then see what has been said so far?
Cheers

Once you are on a page if you scroll down to the bottom of it you'll see a heading "CONVERSATION TOPICS FOR THIS ENTRY" (or something like that). Under this you'll find a lot of links, these all link to conversations that you can join in on. Click on the link and it will take you to the first 20 postings in the conversation. If the conversation is longer than 20 postings (which is often the case) then you'll see a load of red dots at the top of the page and one white dot. Each dot represents 20 postings, the white dot represents the set of 20 postings you are currently viewing. You can click on them to move to any set of 20 postings (dots on the right of the white dot are more recent postings, dots on the left of the white dot are older postings).
To reply to a posting click the link "Reply" at the bottom of a posting. If you are going to reply it is usually best to reply to points made more recently; if you suddenly reply to an very old posting people may not understand what you are replying to (replies appear at the end of the conversation). Hope that helped... I'm not sure how well I explained it. If none of it makes sense then let me know and I'll try and explain it better!
You'll find a lot of conversations on the <./>askh2g2</.> page.

Hi Ace,
Beginning to fly now BUT.
To look at the flow of conversations I click on the latest reply, and I cannot find my orriginal posting or the reply?
I am obviously doing something wrong but what?

Clicking on 'latest reply' will literally take you to the latest reply, so if a lot of people have posted since you did then you might have to go back a few pages to find your posting. Try clicking on the 'latest post' link that will take you to your last post in the conversation and so you can see replies to it isntantly.
I hope that helps, if not let me know smiley - ok
It's good to know you're settling in here smiley - biggrin

Hi Ace,
Just a bit of advice.
I recently posted a question, a request for information. I posted it as a new conversation in the Theatre section. It was a request for help relating to a new amateaur theatre project.
After nine days I have had no replys, I have either:
1. Asked something that no one is interested in - bit suprising from my experience so far. or:
2. I have posted incorrectly and no one can see it except me.
Any ideas?

smiley - erm It could be that no one checks that page anymore; there are lots of ghost pages around h2g2 that few people visit. smiley - erm otherwise I'm not sure. Send me a link to the page and I'll take a look for you.

P.S. sorry for the delay in my reply

If you go to the page and look at the address bar you'll see the web address (e.g. www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/U198983 which is my page) if you copy the letter and number after the final / and paste it into a message in a forum it will act as a link to that page e.g. U198983

smiley - ok I think I've found it (is this it: F19602?thread=622297)
If so I get the feeling the reason there has been no response is that no one really checks that page anymore smiley - sadface There are a lot of pages like that around h2g2. What usually happens is that people who subscribed to the page when it was created have slowly drifted away from h2g2 onto other websites so there is now no one to see your question.
You could put the question on <./>Askh2g2</.>, there are usually lots of people there
