Hi
It's nice to see that there is someone else here who uses a Mac. I have since 1988 (as an architect) and only use PCs under protest.
Good luck

Hi, yep, best thing I did changing to MAC, recently got a black MacBook, sooooooo fast, leaves my old Imac standing. I'm a photographer so the MAC is now my digital darkroom.

I use a seven-year-old G4 Powerbook which still does everything I want and till runs my old software on OS9. Nezha - my semi adopted daughter - has a nice neat iBook which is a little more robust. My Internet Provider has just sent me the latest CDMA modem - it only runs on a PC and I am furious with them.

Should upgrade to OS X if you can, really the best system, even Microsoft have tried to copy some of the ideas for Vista.

I do run OSX-4 for most things (and yes it is fantastic) but some of my old graphics software (and files) need OS9 so I can run both at the same time. Maybe I am just too mean to buy the new software!

PS Microsoft has been copying Mac for years Windows 1995=Mac 1988

I know what you mean, the new photoshop CS3 is coming out soon which is faster with the intel chip, but the older versions seems pretty quick for me.

you can now reboot the Intel MAC with Microsoft.....why would you want to do that?????......it would be like buying a Porsche and replacing the engine with a Ford

Prezactly: I still use a 1998 version of MacWrite (won't run on OSX ) as for most writing (letters and such) it is quicker, better and far less complicated than something like MS Word. The old version of Photoshop and Illustrater are perfectly good for what I want and I still think MiniCad (now selling as VectorWorks) is better than AutoCad and simple to use - like drawing.

so do you ever use a drawing board these days or is it all Autocad now? (sorry didn't mean this to seem a questions only post)

The last time I used a drawing board was 1990. My Mac is my drawing board, technician, secretary and accountant.

Same for me, although I miss splashing around in the darkroom, not sure if I dare tell you, but I use a PC for my accounts only because the software is not available on MAC and I do not want to dirty my MAC hard drive with a Microsoft reboot.
I do a lot of architectural photography, much better than photographing people, the building don't tend to move as much

In 1980 I bought Pentax perspective correcting lens - I am now waiting until the cost of digital SLRs come down to a sensible level. Meanwhile I have used a Canon IXUS7 - it was fantastic - until someone stole it.

I try not to encourage my clients to get a SLR camera, they tend to stop using me as often when they get one only coming back when they realize they can't actually take a good picture

Yes - an odd thing. With an old fashioned SLR, I considered myself lucky if I got one good picture out of a 36 frrame film. With the digital camera - almost every picture is good.

Only because you can see all the bad ones which then get deleted, did you know by the way that viewing digital pictures on the back of your camera is known in the trade as Chimpping....thats because when you flick through the images people go "oo oo oo oo"

I don't entirely agree, of course I delete some but far , far fewer than with a 35mm SLR. I put it down that I am more relaxed as I KNOW I can delete them if I want - I just think I am more relaxed and take more care composing the picture. If you send an e-mail to [email protected] I will send you some of the better ones.
