It was in fact ten years before someone intervened for me. I was abused in every way, but even then those that saw it did nothing- including my own family- on the 1st of December it will be three years since someone saved me by intervening.

To me you are all heroes, those that do instead of just discussing. I believe there are too many people in your field of work that are sat in offices instead being out there. I know that someone has got to do it but is that really a priority?

I got out out but I can't say the same for my sister and brother- I had to leave them that day and I haven't seen them since, but i know that they will always be with me no matter what.

Because of people like you a lot of people will be spared the injustice that i suffered because people were reluctant to get involved at first. For ten years I can't say that I ever experienced real life.

I am finding it hard to adjust, and at the moment those ten years seemed like an eternity, but I know that if I look at those ten years in comparrison with the rest of my life it is in fact only five minutes in time.

I don't know you, but you mean the world to someone like me because you take the chances to give people like me one.

All I can say is Thankyou for your story that is truly inspiring and has touched me a great deal.

I'm sad to say that I came across and intervened in numerous domestic abuse/violence incidents during my work, CandiceLeeTaylor. I got one man put away for ten years for what he did to his wife over a long period. And she wouldn't act as witness in the case! But I won the day. The woman in that case eventually became one of my clerical workers, went on to university and is now a senior psychologist at a local mental hospital. The problem was that it wasn't part of my job to intervene as I did! My job was simply to help people use their creative skills to get a job, start a business or undertake training.

The case which you kindly reviewed was one of the worst incidences of domestic violence and professional neglect of duty I had ever come across. As a hint to the outcome I would say that I still 'live' the outcome 24/7.

But I really do find it difficult to write about the experience all these years later. Men. and some women, get off too lightly where violence and abuse are concerned. But, remember, CandiceLeeTaylor, the men who do those dastardly things are few and far between. There's lots of caring men around, and I hope you find or have found one that cares for you.
