h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Have a few ideas for a book, story that's sci fi, but have just had one, sure i've heard it before somewhere but hopefully not.

As yet don't have a title, has tones of " Armageddon" without the oh look American saved the world again.

Its the future, showers of small metories shower the planet causing some damage, scientists do tests and find they have traces of life, scanning space they find a bigger asteroid heading to earth, on the verge of destroying it, NASA or whatever space group there is sends a shuttle up, they find that the asteroid is a spaceship sent by a race of aliens and this is there transport to earth, inside aliens have a whole eco-system and such.

Thats about it, just thought it up.

I like your idea. There's no easy way to tell if a story has been done before. The chances are, if you haven't read it yourself, then whatever you write will be significantly different. Like you say, Armageddon deals with an asteroid. Rama (Arthur C Clarke) deals with a ship containing an alien habitat. Invasion Earth (Harry Harrison) deals with an alien fortress built on a giant asteroid. But ultimately, none of these will be the same as YOUR idea!
The only way to know what is already out there is to read lots.
I'll enjoy discussing your ideas in the group. The other members we have are extremely creative, so get posting!

Think i was thinking of Rama but as you have said i doubt my story will b the same, we shall see what developes as i write it, well try and work out a plot line first.

Worked on my idea somemore, tell me what u think, i may have screwed it up but still please do tell me.

Upon scanning space, they find a much bigger asteroid heading to earth, on the verge of destroying it, NASA or whatever space group there is sends a shuttle up.

Landing on it they find that the asteroid is a spaceship sent by a race of aliens and this is there transport to earth, inside aliens have a whole eco-system; the asteroid is there home away from home, they tell the humans that they have run from there home world under attack from there enemies.

The asteroid is huge, and on the dark side of it the alien do not know that some of their enemies have hidden away and are planning to strike, sending the asteroid into Earth.

Sorry to say that no at the moment i haven't got anything in my portfolio, i am in the midist of writing the opening chapter/ prolouge for a book and will post that in time.

The idea about the earth bound asteroid thats a craft from an alien race i don't know where that came from but glad that some people like my idea, i will have to find some time and write somemore on it take it from the idea to a story, will let you know what happens.

Have thought somemore about my idea and already have a teaser for the sequel, follow up story, in the end of the story the asteroid crashes into the planet, the aliens on board it both good and bad spill out, turning the already devestated planet into a war zone as they fight, the humans left alive take sides in this fight, a fight for the planet.

Well its an idea.

All you need is an idea...
Is this a short story or a novel? A novel would require some serious padding with sub-plots, but as an idea it has potential.
Would anyone survive the asteroid crashing into a planet? Look what happened the last time!
Why not continue this line of thought in the group forum, rather that on this thread. That way the other group members can contribute.
