This is interesting, and I'll bet lots of hootooers don't know any of this.

I would change the first sentence's assertion, maybe, to talk about the popularity of hip-hop, rather than challenging the reader to accept that it is 'one of the best' genres. (And I'm not just saying that because I don't listen to hip-hop. I'm a horrible old folkie, but that has nothing to do with it.)

Maybe you could tell us more about what kinds of things hip-hop artists feud about. Only personal rivalries, or ideas, business affairs, whatever?

Also, a question of personal interest: What does Ice-T say about all of this? I really respect him as an actor, and he seems to have a ton to say about things. Is there a really big divide between rap and hip-hop?

No there isn't a big divide between real rap or hip hop,but between fake hip hop and rap, yes there is a big divide.

Heh-heh, and what makes hip-hop fake? Bad rhymes? Bad ideas?

smiley - laughWhat makes hip hop fake is the people who are spitting the rhymes. They have to be saying something, anything.

Ah. You need to talk to Willem. smiley - biggrin He and I are in an ongoing dicussion about songs and song lyrics. I agree - say something besides 'baby, baby'.

In the meantime, I'm going to suggest that what this essay needs is more about hip-hop: What it does, who these people are, where they live, what it feels like...you almost have a rhythm going in this, as it is, make it more like that.

I'm going to edit it to add more hip-hop rivalries and the basis behind most beefs.

smiley - ok And explain 'beef' if it's a special term. (Remember: This is being read by Brits, Germans, and other non-US-type people. smiley - winkeye)

This is interesting. smiley - smiley

However, I agree with Dmitri that it would be better if you told your readers more about hip-hop and the artists involved in it.

I would suggest you split this piece into shorter paragraphs.

I agree - I learned something from this as I know of Tupac but didn't know the circumstances of his death...
