I would counter this by saying that doubt eats away at confidence, at personality.
In a nice world that is full of support, doubt is indeed a true path to perfection. However, in our world (full of nasty, mean things - or thangs if you are so inclined), doubt is the first opening to weakness, vulnerability, paranoia.
No, a heady dose of benign level-headed arrogantism is what leads to perfection.
