Hiya Wargamer
Good Entry about Dungeons and 's I agree that the Original Entry ( A209602 ) on DandD seems to out of date your best course of action is to actually Update it! If you check out http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/UpdateForum it well tell you how to go about this monumental task! Better off submitting your Entry to the Update Forum than Peer Review, that way your Entry will eventually supercede the Original Entry...
Best of luck with it

Hi
I'm wondering if it's worth mentioning that AD&D is now into its 3rd Ed.? I was playing 1st Ed. some two decades ago and, for various reasons, 'dropped out'.
I recently had (just) one game of 3rd and, grief, what a difference! I was almost completely lost. Similarly with CRPGs,; you mention Baldur's Gate. I've got the whole series, as well as Ice ind Dale 1 & 2.
Guess what? I hardly ever play IWD 'cos I'm more familiar with the BG millieu.
My real query is: am I having a difficulty a total newbie wouldn't have 'cos I'm used to a perhaps more stringent, less adaptable rule set or would newbies be as flummoxed as I was/am with 3rd ED?

I kinda stopped playing not long after the introduction of 2nd edition. I wasn't really that impressed with it - I got the impression it was a way to profiteer by re-releasing the Player's Handbook, DM's Guide etc. I played my own 1st/2nd edition kind of hybrid for a while taking the new parts I liked, piecemeal.
What struck you as the main differences with 3rd edition?

In BG/IWD terminologies, I suppose it was the 'kits', the new classes and/or the new abilities for the original classes, and also the extra abilities which operate all the time, automatically.
Am I making sense?

Yeah, I see what you mean. I noticed a few differences to the classes mentioned in the guide entry - eg the distinction between Sorcerers and Wizards..
I think if I was to start playing again, I'd take a while to become used to it.
Not familiar with BG/IWD though.

Well, as I said, if you're accustomed to 1ST Ed rules, the BG series is home away from home; IWD - esp. IWD II, based on 3RD Ed - difficult to grasp (for me, leastways).
Key: Complain about this post
