h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Greetings Woodpidgeon,

Just a note to say thanks for your kind welcome. Having lurked for some time, I have a vague idea about H2G2, but it is a bit of a maze when you get in. Never mind, it'll be fun exploring it.

I enjoyed your piece about being a Dad. I have two boys (3 and 1) and if you think one is bad, try that! Spookily enough we are the same age and have similar jobs in a way, except that you will undoubtedly be paid far more than me and will stay in nice hotels in nice places!

I have to use words like 'synergy', 'joined up government' and 'electronic service delivery' a lot, only in places where they probably mean less (Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia). Never mind, at least I get to see some fantastic things that I couldn't afford to pay to visit.

Maybe I'll write this down in my Journal.

Thanks a lot for your message! I used to do quite a bit of travelling, but it has all gone *very* quiet in the last few months, which in many ways is a good thing, because I was beginning to think of Heathrow as my real home for a while ! As for pay, well its not actually as much as you might think - I made a decision a few years ago to live in a place I like (Cork) rather than a high-octane career in Dublin or London or such places. I have many friends who chose the latter, and they look far too stressed to me when I meet up with them each Christmas...
