Well, things are looking up - I've been in Denmark for a few days now, and it's going well despite my best efforts (getting confused on Copenhagen's train system, missing the train I was aiming for - thankfully the tickets are valid all day! rocking up in a not very large town to find the youth hostel was full - girl in tourist bureau found me a bed and breakfast, and tonight's pearl - leaving my journal on top of a public phone in the train station - which is why you're getting this entry, cos I came back from the youth hostel to find it (and did), and found a net cafe as well
I'm really liking Denmark, altho it is expensive - the people are lovely (and most speak a little english - fortunately, cos after 3 days, my danish includes about 4 words...), the countryside is beautiful, and the sun doesn't set til 10pm! I flew into Copenhagen (or Kobenhavn) tuesday (?) night, stayed in a youth hostel, then caught a train to a town called Hobro in northern Jutland (the bit attached to germany). Spent the following day on a boat on a fjord (no pining parrots in sight!), then caught a steam train back, and a regular train south to Århus, and spent the warm evening wandering the central city (Carlsberg in hand - very civilised!). Today I went to a restored historical 'village', which was really interesting, then caught a train south to Odense, which is the major city on the island (Funen) between Jutland and Zealand (where Copenhagen is).
My Contiki tour starts tomorrow, so that should reduce the mental and physical stress - my brain never functions that well and is clearly out of shape at the moment, and my pack weighs 17kg, and I've done a fair bit of walking with it lately... I'm looking forward to spending some time with people who's first language is english, as it's been a little taxing (and all my witty comments are going to waste, as there's no-one to appreciate them... The tour should be lots of fun, and I think a visit to the Carlsberg factory is early on the agenda :D
'Nuff said for now, more soon.

Whoop Whoop!
Nice one Carol, glad to see the College tradition of blatant street drinking hasn't gone out of style just yet.
Hope that Contiki is a blast - Bondy, Petrie and I are beginning to realise that 4 years worth of in jokes means that our conversations are indecipherable to anyone else at college - and that this is not always such a good thing... Trying to explain 32 degrees with Julienne at the table opposite for example...
In the biggest news in my life at the moment, I've managed to score a job in logistics (ie. shelf stacking) in Myer Perth, which means that I will be getting some money - yay! - and less time to do my thesis - boo!
Otherwise, life goes on as normal - though Bondy's 21st is soon and we have no idea what to get him... (Am refraining from snide comments as this forum is publicly viewable .
Well, have a great time in Scandinavia, and good luck finding the danish equivalent of Berroca!

PS. Did you find your camera? Gawd I hope so!

Hi Hobbsy
Ta for the message
Teehee - college is probably the best place ever for developing in jokes, and the worst thing of having left, is that you have all gone on developing new ones, so half the references are lost on me too!
Nice work on the job front Hope it's not too arduous, and I'm sure you will still go fine on the thesis - have you sorted a topic?
Hmmm, Bondy's 21st present. why is the first criteria that springs to mind 'inflatable'? Just kidding...
Contiki should be a blast - if I can bear to look at a screen thru the hangover, I will write more soon
