'Assumptions are the mother of all 'f*#%-ups'
I should make this my motto for this trip, which started eventfully with my assumption (1) that my plane ticket would be at the airport or else (2) that my travel agent (STA, Carillon Arcade = bad) would have told me I had to come and get it. Both proved incorrect, so my parents had to say goodbye in a hurry and race into the city to get it. Thankfully the airline (Royal Brunei = good) checked me in without it, and brought me the ticket on the plane just before take-off.
The flight (via Brunei and Dubai) was long but bearable - I slept a lot. I landed at Heathrow around 7am, and negotiated the bus system (including a driver who didn't want my £10 note, so I had to race oiff and break it) to Hampton Court Palace. see http://www.hrp.org.uk/webcode/hampton_home.asp for more about it.
