h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Since last post... life has been fairly unexciting...

I did my 'Mystery Shopper' assignment at a nightclub - basically it consisted of going to the club like a normal customer, but paying attention to things like the presentation and friendliness of the staff, the state of the toilets and smoking area, and general impressions. There were some specific tasks as well, like request a song from the DJ, ask a question of a security guard, buy drinks from 3 different bars etc. Then you write a report for the management, and get paid (well, supposedly - it hasn't happened yet!). Also, I spent 55 euros in the course of doing the assessment, and they're paying me 50, so it won't make me rich anytime soon!

Otherwise, I worked Monday to Thursday at my lovely loan shark office. Well, akin to the comments people used to make about me 'working' for the council in Edinburgh I should perhaps say I 'attended work' from Mon to Thurs - since Thursday consisted of talking to my colleague, reading, vaguely planning my european adventure prior to coming home and watching The Family Guy on Cat's laptop, I can't really call it work!

It was a good day, and I now have a lovely vision of spending late September/October/November travelling from Istanbul up the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria and Romania to the Danube Delta, then south west across both countries to Sofia, then up to Transylvania, across Slovakia to Vienna, and up thru the Czech Republic to Poland Who knows if it will happen, but it's helped me get thru an otherwise fairly miserable week of shite weather, depressive introspection, tedious work, trying to sort out getting paid and paying rent and bills (lots!). I still want to go back to Spain and see Portugal as well, so I'll have to figure out when/how to fit that in as well I might be dying for some proper sun before my visa runs out (make that definitely, I am dying now...) so finances permitting, I may go early in the summer... or maybe early in spring!

Also, I went to another kickboxing class, which was good fun (and not quite as painful as the first) And I dragged my fat arse over to Salthill and swam a mile. The resolution about eating better isn't going so well, but I am getting some exercise...

Went out last night with Sonja and Greg - ended up in a place with really good music, so it was fun

Today I am having a very lazy day - got up after midday and phoned home, wrote an email to my brother and generally allowed the internet to devour most of my day! Now it's dinner time...
