11th Hour for Albatros

Post 1

Having spent 50 years as a yachtsman and 10 of those as a Merchant Navy Officer of the Watch, I owe a real debt to these birds.
As a grey and wild dawn rises in the Southern Ocean and yet another mug of cocoa is mixed to stave off the natural need to sleep. The total wonder of seeing these birds swooping and skimmimg the front of huge rollers leads me to believe that like Jonathon Livingstone Seagull, a lot of what they are doing is not just for food, but because they can and that they enjoy their own phenominal skill.
Once seen all thoughts of one's own tiredness and frailty are gone.
We must all ensure these birds are protected as best we can.
