A Conversation for Things That Make Your Skin Crawl
The word special

My skin crawls when people are referred to as "special", American tourists say
"your country is so special" and the word is used to describe a 5% discount on
a retail product. I like the band though.

"Moist" springs instantly to mind. That one really sets my teeth on edge, in just about any context.

Even worse is when obnoxious little twelve-year-olds try to make it trendy by shortening it to 'spesh'. As in: "come and look at my new stereo, it's really spesh."
misuse of the word "bitter"

The misuse of the word "bitter" as in, "I am just so bitter".Aaaarrgh!!! Unless you've been dipped in lemon or lime juice, in which case you have bigger problems, I don't want to hear the word used this way! Along the same lines is the misuse of the word "sin" (for example: "Did you hear that Julie's daughter twisted her ankle and missed going to the dance? That's such a sin."). People sin; the word is generally considered a verb, and when it is not used as a verb, it's a very well-defined noun with a serious set of rules for its usage. Read the book.

The one I can't stand is "panties". I dunno, I just hate it, but when you put that and Kate's word "moist" together, man what a horrid combo!

What really bothers me is when a person will cuss, but not think about what he/she is saying. There was this one guy who would always say, on a cold day, "Man, it is cold as hell outside." I mean, duh.
Sorry for the rant.
