Hi kifperran!

Hayle's lovely, my mother in law used to have a place down there - one of the 'shacks' on the cliffs (as she called it!) I think the location was called Hayle Towans? I went there a few times with her, it was fantastic - an amazing beach with the 'red' river at the end. smiley - biggrin

My partner Mark Moxon, who used to be the Editor of h2g2 U13, walked from Land's End to John o Groats last year. He's written about it on his website here...

http://www.longdistancewalks.com

He wrote a book about the journey as he went along, but he hasn't put it up on the site yet, because he's trying to get it published.

When did you do the walk? He loved it, but got a bit fed up with it towards the end and was looking forward to coming home - it's a very long way!

Well done for doing it yourself! smiley - bubbly

I am so embarrassedsmiley - blush I never dreamed any one would think I actualy walked the end to end, I have now altered my page. Six of us, all aged about twenty five crammed into a little old Ford Pop and did it for charity. it was just a great big laugh and none of us got sore feet.
Yes it is Hayle Towans, and it is the Red River. It is still unspoilt and a favourite place of ours. Thank you for your congrats but I don't deserve them,. I will read your partners website with great interest
smiley - cheers

Hi kifperran,

Doing it in a car still counts you know - don't feel embarrassed! Not getting sore feet doing it sounds like a *much* more sensible idea to me! smiley - ok Apparently the quickest ever Lands End to John o'groats is 6 minutes 30 seconds - someone in the airforce did it in a jet fighter and its an official record. The quickest walker (or jogger, must be!) did it in 3 days 17 hours, he must have been totally balmy - its something like 800-1,000 miles depending on the route.

Hayle is fab, I have many happy memories of there - say hi to it for me when you next go for a walk there on a blustery day, they're the best I think! smiley - magic

It took us seventy eight hours if I remember correctly. We actually went on to Dunnet Head because tickets were sold for people to guess our exact mileage. We raised a lot of money for a charity supporting sufferers from ankolising spondulosis. One of the drivers suffered from it. Sadly it took him from us a few years later.
You can imagine how smelly the car got at times, we all smoked in those days and none of us were very 'polite'.
The Boss and I were in Hayle today, as the weather was so good we bought pasties and ate them looking over Godrevy. Wonderful stuff.
smiley - cheers
