I do not usually spend time regretting the fact that now I am fairly old. (By biblical standards my time is up)However this evening I was almost overcome with nostalgia for my youth.
We watched Strictly Come Dancing. And 'The Past' came sweeping in to my mind.
I was twenty one when I met The Boss at the local dance hall. I was new in this area then and I asked my mate to point out a girl who could dance. he pointed across the room and said 'She's a good dancer'
I looked over and saw the most beautiful girl I had ever laid eyes on. She wore a blue and white dress with a full skirt and I thought I was going to be sick with love(at that age it was more probably lust however)
I asked her to dance and she said she would dance with me.
It was as if we had been dancing together for ever. We danced every dance that night It was the first of many many dances. We married within five months of meeting and were together for nine years before we had children so we were out dancing a lot. And ballroom dancing was our thing. We danced as though we were making love and of course we practically were. We were both slim and fit in those days. We danced occasionally after the children were born and at our silver wedding party, which was held in the ballroom where we met, we even impressed our sons who had no idea that we were as good as we were.
Watching this evening brought back those wonderful memories, and made me feel sad. We are both creaky now and the dancing is over.

That was lovely, kif.
Isn't that a great programme! 'Proper' dancing is beautiful - especially when done by people who are clearly enjoying themselves.
(I wish I could do foxes and waltz-trots! Maybe this winter I'll persuade Mr T to come with me to evening classes?)
Keep on dancing in your dreams

I hope Mr. T goes along with you to dance classes. He will find it is sooo sexy as well as great exercise. Tell him that the Tango is the most macho dance in the world. it gets all the girls going

I learnt ballroom dancing at an all girls grammar school, but because of my height I was always the "man". This did me no favours later on in life because I always wanted to "lead", and would confuse the boys, who didn't get taught this at school anyway and were not sure what they were doing and which foot was which.
Then I went to a works "do" of my Dad's and one of his office staff asked me to dance. I shall remember that for ever! He placed his hand lightly in the small of my back and told me not to think of anything but what his hand told me to do. It was . I somehow automatically assumed the girls part, and swirled and dipped and bent with him first through a waltz, then a quick step and then a foxtrot. I had never danced like that before, nor have I since
Unfortunately, like you, I think the creaky knees would prevent me from taking up ballroom dancing at this stage in my life.
Ah well, back to chairobics then!!
Take care, UG

UG - I had the same problems as you - but with Scottish country Dancing. We always had classes with more girls than boys at primary school, and because I was tall they made me dance the boy's part. To this day, I still cannot dance the Gay Gordons properly - and it's one of the simplest dances!
You're absolutely right in what you say about the pleasures of dancing with a man who 'leads' - .
