We said goodbye to our friend this morning. The priest said she was 77 and ill. it was time for her to go. I thought to myself that her family and friends probably do not think that. Although she was unwell she was a very bright lady. We saw people we haven't seen for years. They all look old now. I came home and looked in the mirror, I was not best pleased with what I saw. The inside bit is still a kid, it is only the outside that is ageing.
The morning was grey and dull. just right for a funeral. No one should have a funeral on a sunny day.
This afternoon the sun came out and we went to Sennen and walked along the beach. Most of the visitors are gone and it was very quiet there. A few people surfing, the waves were good and running from way out so it was quite spectacular watching them.
We went in the Roundhouse and I saw a painting I would have liked but we have no room on the walls now.
After Sennen we drove to Lands End then on to St Levan and through the back lanes to Newlyn. Everything is so green and lush, and as we came over the hill and looked across the bay The Mount looked like a magic castle. It blows my mind every time I see it. The sky so blue, the land so green and the castle with the sun shining on for all the world looking as though it is built from pure gold.
We stopped at Newlyn for ice cream and then drove home through Penzance which was crowded with shoppers. The town had quite a festive air about it and it seemed to me that was wrong. I felt a little uncomfortable knowing that we had such a lovely afternoon after such a sad morning. However none of us know how much time we have left to enjoy things so I put my sorrow at the back of my mind and came home and spent some time pottering in the garden reflecting on how good life is for us in spite of everything
