detroit parties or why not to park on the street

This past weekend my friend Maria and I made a trip to Detroit to visit a good friend who was having a moving party. It was easy to see why he was moving from the area. First of all, all the neighbors around him had security signs in their yards as this was not the best part of town. I mean for chrisake, we are talking Detroit here. Our friends house was the only one without one of these security signs, hence the 4 breakins he has had in the last 3 years. Second of all, the remnants of stolen cars littered the streets in this particular neighborhood, making it look like some kind of automobile bone yard. Last but not least, one just did not feel safe walking around this particular place.

Well, the party was a great time. Mostly made up of teachers and a few engineers from the suburbs, the group was a typical bunch of young 30 somethings. The beers were being poured frequently and everyone was dancing. At about 1 in the morning we all heard a loud crash outside the on the street and we went to see what had happened. Well, there was the hosts car and several others all smashed up in the neighbors yard. It turned out to be a high speed police chase through the neighborhood and the car thiefs seemed to end their journey right into our friends car. It was quite a mess, with the ambulance taking away the driver of the car and leaving my poor friend Scott shaking his head asking, why me. I just thanked the heavens that i parked in the driveway that night.
