Hi there Mr Sweatandtears,

nice to have a visitor around these quiet parts. Interesting that you took up smoking - I have recently given up but think a lot about taking it up again. I've put on so much weight that I'm sure smoking was healthier.

Unfortunately I am usually at work when on here so can be a bit unresponsive when it comes to conversations, but good to hear from you. What is Cluj like?

Hy,daveblackeye, thank you for answering my message. Now,let's take them in turn :
-perhaps I should explain to you what my nick name stands for.But it's a looooooooong story about communism and the hardships I endured as a student in a bucharest terrorized by ceausescu's regime.a huge concentration camp.unbearable.unspeakable.yet,it happened.if you,the british really knew, you would see the romanians in a very different light.the point is I have come to speak 2 foreign languages, and to acquire the occidental system of values -that is to rebuild/re-educate myself-through huge self sacrifices, through my own blood, sweat and tears.it is slso a sending to my idealistic youth, when I was trying to adopt the 'Woodstock'style of seeing life and the others.
-it is not me who took up smoking,dave-I never was a 'professional' smoker.never bought my owns, always smoked others'.one day I gave it up for good- but my daughter did.I am devastated but I know that I can't forbid her.It would be a terrible mistake. So,I'm reading about my problem and trying to solve it.
-don't even think about it.be strong.think of the years you will be spending with your beloved ones,if you start a new lifestyle, healthier
and more centred to increasing your self-esteem.
-why don't you take up some diet ?perhaps it's time you changed something in your life.why don't you start with that ?
-I'm sure you'll manage somehow.after all,you're the great daveblackeye.
-it's a concatenation of medieval,of gothic and coomunist postmodernism
that is kitsch.it is also very crowded and highly polluted.
-tell my more about you and your family.d'you have a teenager in the house ?if not, enjoy the moments, still you can.
have a nice evening.looking forward to reading you.

Hi bloodsweatandtears,

it sounds like you have had a hard life - I can only hope that things continue to get better for you. I would be interested in hearing your story - if you want to get it out in the open you could write an entry in your personal space.

I've always been fascinated with the eastern bloc and communism, mainly due to a deep dissatisfaction with the western system - but clearly your experiences have not been favourable. It shows what can happen when things go wrong, which is the one area where our democracies really work I guess.

Apologies if I'm a bit unresponsive but I don't post here very much as I'm generally only online at work - and should be working.

Sorry about your daughter taking up smoking - but it is not the end of the world, she has loads of time to quit again, and over here at least most young people smoke at some time in their lives. I admit it must be hard for a parent to accept though.

Do you think Romania entering the EU next year will affect your life at all?

Hy dave, yes, you can say that.I had a hard life due to the political mistakes the allies commited after the nazi capitulated in 1945.from our point of vue we were abandoned.from Mr.Churchill,Roosevelt and co's they avoided a new world conflict and saved lives.I know what communism was like. I lived it.
You know, dave,at a second thought, there were also some flashes of luck in my life:my admission at the university, some extremely interesting people I met there and changed my destiny and helped me understand what was happening to this country and our lives.
In 1987, 2 years before a brick in the Wall crashed, and ceausescu got killed,I left bucharest to teach in a 1300m high mountain village.there I met my present wife, moved to a comprehensive school in her native town. And here I met a man with an incredible ability of analysis and political prediction. He graduated from 2 universities in bucharest, where he studied biochemistry, and the Academy of Politology.that is he a political analyst.we made friends and for the last 15 years we've been discussing the major political and social events. And believe me, he's GOOD.He has taught me a lot about communism and we analysed it in details, scientifically. Now, it depends on what you want.If you're interested in a psychoanalitical, lierary, personal interpretation, that's
ok.I'll tell you what it meant to my life. But if you want a political analysis,,then I'lltry to to talk to my friend here and we'll answer any question you ask.
so, you just make up your mind and let me know.
PS.if we could talk online, it would be excellent.
I'll be waiting for your answer, friendly, bloodsweatandtears.

Hy,carol,I haven't entered the bloq for quite a while.I've been so busy
with my work lately and have had to give up things I enjoy so much.I've been missing my reading and writing.
-when I visited france 15 years ago,the kids I went with performed a 2 hours show of french and romanian poetry (translated in french).I meant it as a candid plead for love of life and common sense and absurdity of war.I had been working for months with each of my pupils, trying to explain the 14 year old children what Prevert, jacques brel, eminescu and blaga had meant in their poems.there were 4 performances, one held in strasbourg, at the European Parliament.I didn't expect such a success, but never mind that.the point is that a french teacher offered me a book containing all jacques brel's songs and poems.I've been reading out of it every night ever since. I've even translated some of them in romanian and english.
-I still meet some of those kids now and then. They haven't forgotten me nor all we experienced durind that journey.they have got married, have their own kids. Only when I see them I realise how profesionally Cronus has been doing his job.
-do you speak french, carol ? do you like french poetry? have you read any of jacques brel's poems and songs ?would you have a look on my translations to see if they're any good ? who knows, you might even use them in your classes...
-I hope you and your family are all fine and in good health.May God protect and be with you all.
