I've just made my Researcher Number equal 42, and I did it ALL BY MYSELF!!! :o)

(6*3)+7+5+6+6

There, wasn't that easy?

Congrats on your achievment!
I know you by reputation. You are 'she?' who battles chocolate valiantly. I have gone to great pains to find your space. I feel that for my herculian effort i am justified requesting your prescence and opinion on my entry about Sense of Humour in my space.
Please give it a look and any thoughts would be welcome!
NOT a freak OR stalker just your friendly neighbourhood superintellegant shade of the colour blue.

Well, I do battle chocolate, admittedly, but I don't know about 'valiantly' - more with a kind of cheerful futility and frequent delicious failures. I'm honoured that you went to such effort to find my space, though I haven't a notion who you are - although we do have a mutual friend, so perhaps I do know you! I've read everything on your space hunting for clues, but still can't make even a tentative guess. Which will be rather discomfiting if you turn out to be someone I know well.
All of which raises the interesting question of whether you need to know who someone is to have a conversation with them. No, that's not right - it's whether you can have a discussion with someone you know without knowing who they are... no, that's not it either. Grrr... I'll take that train of thought to my Journal and see if it goes anywhere or just derails...
I can't find the piece on Sense of Humour of which you speak. Direct me to it and it shall receive my prompt consideration, for what that's worth.

yes i removed it as it didn't serve well as the introduction to my space i'm going to have to remove the piece on Bosco and Ribena also as i feel that it is not quite fitting to a superintelligent shade of the colour blue.
Can you talk to someone who you don't know or to someone you do know but don't know who? Yes you're doing it now or were 44mins ago(I'm sorry i missed you by the way)the question is can you have a meaningful conversation with them with that knowledge unknown?
And so romeo comes to a capulet party with a mask on.

You, my friend, have a most atrocious habit of tangling conversation threads. You put sums in my mystery-somebody thread, and now you've put mystery-you in my Forty-two thread. The whole thing feels like it's been got at by a demented kitten. Grrrr!!!
Just kidding. Mostly. But it's rather confusing to be having several different conversations all at once with the same person (and not know whether you know that person!) when the topics of each conversation are being constantly interchanged. Not all of us are superintelligently blue, you know.
I'll get over not knowing who you are, eventually - though I must admit my curiosity is piqued! I'm sure TRiG could settle the question quite easily (hint, hint, TRiG!) - after all, if you left stuff in his house it's a fair bet he knows you. Unless you're Santa Claus.

I'm having a rather boring afternoon at work, so just for fun I've made TRiG's and Moke's researcher numbers equal 42, too. Well, sort of. Moke's is fine, but try as I may I can only manage -42 with TRiG's unless I use a decimal point - which, while perfectly legitimate mathematically, lacks a certain elegance. I'll post both, anyway.

TRiG
(6-1)*2-57+5 = -42
(6+1+2+5+7)*.5 = 42

Moke
(11+32+41)/2 = 42

To get back to your 42 thread, I also accomplished this feat:

4(11-1)+3-1+2-2 gets you there quite easily. smiley - ok

Post 8

moke_paranoidandroid

Surely you can simply rearrange to give 2(6-1)-57+5?
I just realised you're keeping the numbers in order....well.. smiley - erm

Post 9

moke_paranoidandroid

Sorry, ment re-arrnge above to give 57-2(6-1)-5

Post 10

moke_paranoidandroid

what's wrong with -(6-1)*2+57-5 = 42?
I prsume you meant (6+1+2+5+7)/.5 = 42.

Been messing around with smartcolourblue person's #, got 42 but only when I leave some digits out. Any advances on these?
formula but what about?
(11-1)*5-8 = 42 1, 8
111-58-(1+8) = 44

My theory is that the researcher who cannot make 42 from his/her number has deep internal prblems (lkie spaling), esp. at thursday lunchtimes!smiley - winkeye

*sigh* Moke, Moke, keeping the numbers in order is the whole POINT! It'd be no fun if it was easy....

Oops - yes, I did mean divide by .5.

There's nothing wrong with your version of TRiG's (I did consider it) except that starting an equation with a negative is even more inelegant than using a decimal. So I think, anyway.

As for the superintelligently blue fella, we did his in another thread (he mixes his threads in the most lamentable fashion):

(11-1)+(5*8*1)-8 = 42

I'm afriad I havn't quite got the whole multiple/single thing quite so organised as you do 'Even' also I'm sure it keeps you on your toes!
By the way i took me quite some time to think up that romeo thing i at least expected a comment (could someone please tell me step by step how to put in the happy faces!)

smiley - smiley I did notice, and was both delighted and amused - but, my dear chap, when you wax lyrical to a gal you should NEVER admit you had to work hard at it! Let her think it comes naturally, and she'll assume everything else about you is as romantic and intriguing as the lines you crib from good ol' Billy the Shake.

You use the smileys by typing the name of the one you want enclosed in pointy brackets like these < >. Some of them also have a shorthand code, for example this one smiley - smiley can be inserted by typing : ), or : - ), or < smiley > (all the above without the spaces between characters, which I had to put in to stop them turning into smiley - smiley ). Click on any smiley to go to the smiley page, which has a list of all the names and codes.

My dear 'Even' when you try your reverse phyc on a guy you should NEVER admit your doind it!Let him think it comes naturally, and he'll assume everything is fine!!!!!!!!!
