h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Just heard on the radio that Bush has nominated another replacement for Sandra Day O'Connor, his 3rd (although his 1st choice, John Roberts, wound up replacing Justice Rehnquist instead). There's an American expression that goes "Third time is the charm." The commentators on the radio were calling Samuel Alito "Sc-Alito," a reference to his being ideologically like Antonin Scalia. They also feel that since the President is reeling politically, this will energise his base. Guess we'll find out whether this guy is a trick, or a treat (har, har). Another interesting tidbit is that Alito would be the 5th Catholic on the current court (out of 9), the others being Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas, & Roberts.

Achilles is still asleep. Apparently, Halloween is considered a worthy enough holiday to merit letting the public schools out (Artemis goes to parochial school so she, sadly, trudged off to school this morning. She'll feel better when she gets together with her friends tonight to go trick or treating. Happy Halloween.
