Let it snow!
katkodl Started conversation Feb 3, 2005
Heya!
Austria is drowning in snow! It’s just wonderful (at least for me )! I was just outside cleaning the sidewalk from snow… There is hardly any slush yet, just fluffy fresh snow.
That’s perfect timing I have to say: I had my last exam (for a while) yesterday , and now I have some time for myself. I’m looking forward to going for a walk through the winter landscape – so much snow is quite impressing! And: it shows no signs of stopping. ...I should take some photos so that I have something to look at next Christmas!
Now all the blackbirds from around are gathering in our yard enjoying apples! They are so sweet! They just love apples in winter, and what they are leaving behind just looks like applesauce (if you know what I mean ).
No wind, not too cold, masses of snow: just perfect!

Can you take some pics for me to look at? It hardly ever snows here and even when it does it's not proper snow.
How high is it?
Are you going to make me a snowman finally?

That sounds beautiful, katkodl! Here we have rain, and heat! I met a man from Crete this morning, who said that the woman on the radio was wroing, it's not 27 degrees, but 23, he knows because it is always 27 in Crete... It feels too hot to me, but as I hate cold, I am trying not to complain...
How did your exam go? Enjoy your holiday, and the

Katkat:
Actually there was too much snow for going for a walk yesterday, so I didn’t take any photos. I’m not sure how high the snow was, but it was much higher than my boots, and I really don’t appreciate snow visiting my feet in my shoes! I also was too lazy to build a snowman I have to admit.
Didn’t you have some snow around Christmas?
Della:
My exam went pretty well. At least that’s what I think, but my intention has often proven to be wrong throughout the years. So whenever I have a really good feeling after having taken an exam (like this time!) it’s a reason to be suspicious that I’ve messed up!
Today the weather isn’t nice: it’s not snowing anymore, but it’s windy, and rather warm, so the snow is turning in to slush pretty fast.
Also, the birds seem to have vanished today… all except one (female) blackbird in the yard which is busy producing apple sauce!

Nope. no snow here at all katkodl, besides whenever we do get snow it's pathetic and hardly reaches the top of your boot sole let alone the top fo your boot itself!

I don't think the post people would be impressed
Once I got sick and tired of that whole "Eat all your greens, think of the starving children in Africa" thing that school teachers seem to be when they are lower middle-class and ignorant and stupid, that I secretly stuffed my lunch in an envelope and posted it once....when dad found out he was REALLY angry.

Kat - From H2G2 Posted Feb 4, 2005
Yup I sent it to "Children in Africa".
Dad works for Royal Mail so of course he exploded.

I'm madly jealous of your snow. It was eighty degrees here today, bright and sunny. I find San Diego so depressing at times...

Hello EMR!
Actually there is not much left to be jealous of anymore. Mainly dirty slush!
I’d love to live in San Diego – it’s warm all through the year! Not to mention that you’re very close to the Pacific Ocean. I would like that. I don’t appreciate the cold weather, you know. Though I have to admit that some snow can be really nice sometimes.
Katkat, did you send the food to be pesky to your Dad, or didn’t you know any better?
Let it snow!
Kat - From H2G2 Posted Feb 5, 2005
I was young and part of me was fed up with the teachers for trying to guilt me with the 'starving children' and part of me felt guilty for not eating something and also that if I DID eat it then it would be more food than I needed. I didn't really consider the consequences of sending it.
It's grey and dull and windy here. You know Britain fits into Ohio. Random fact for the day.

How did your father find out in the end?
We’ve enjoyed sunshine all day long. So we fit into California or Florida today… No, wait, it’s too cold for that!

I'd rather be somewhere where it snows and rains any day. I think it's damaging to my psychology to not have any proper seasons. It's always spring or summer here, and this can be terribly confusing. It's sort of like those astronauts who go crazy because they don't have day and night with darkness and light up in space.
If you ever write an autobiography, Kat, you should put that story in it! Any self-respecting reader would have to love it.

Kat - From H2G2 Posted Feb 5, 2005
If it snowed and rained randomly that wouldn't be seasons...it doesn't snow and rain RANDOMLY even in England or Belgium! That would be strange...but it is...unpredictable which is different to entirely random...just trust me
Dad found out when my teacher wrote a letter

I know how that feels - recently about job interviews, sigh... I wish you good luck, and good results.

katkodl Posted Feb 6, 2005
So here is my recommendation, Katkat: when you plan to send food in an envelope again, bring the parcel straight to a letter box without consulting teachers, Dads or Mums!
Oh, I’d love to have spring and summer for the rest of my life! Winter would be fine if it snowed a lot, but it doesn’t snow a lot around here… just once or twice each winter.
Last night we had –18°C (~ 0°F), and now it’s still far below 0°C (= 32°F) – that’s just toooo cold!
I hope I’ll get my results for the exam on Monday (tomorrow!) – at least that’s what I was told by the professor. But I’m afraid it will take him a little longer. Many years of experience have taught me that (in average) it takes university staff twice as long to do something than announced. We’ll see…

echomikeromeo Posted Feb 6, 2005
That seems to be true for anyone in a position of authority. They always take longer than they say they will. S'pose you'll just have to be patient... but I understand that's a very difficult thing. Not that I'm familiar with it, myself.

katkodl Posted Feb 8, 2005
I don’t have my results yet – I’m hardly surprised. But as long as I know before the end of the month it’s okay. Cause in case I’ve failed I have to take the exam again within the first week of March. I don’t think that I’ve failed, but who knows!
