h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

It's five or so hours 'til dawn
With not so much as one little yawn
Motivated and willing
My bed to be filling
Before the night's completely gone

Consciousness strongly persists
All loss of alertness resists
Clarity wanes
In over-tired brains
And a sort of confusion exists

Before anyone reads this I'll sleep
Quite possibly, long, hard and deep
'Til then, I'll just type
This rambling tripe
That way out of mischeif I'll keep

There's no harm in tossing out lines
It's not like they're handing out fines
For bad poems, I mean
As long as they're clean
And they're kept within tasteful confines

If I meditate, I'll just get bored
If I make noise, my wife will get sore
She's sleeping just fine
Since an hour past nine
So I'm stuck with the old written word

I could read what my peers have to say
About what happened earlier today
Osama is dead
He was shot in the head
But he was going to die anyway (some day)

Are you sleeping yet? I'm still alert
Contemplating when I will revert
To a dreaming state
Tomorrow at eight?
With Tuesday spent prone and inert?

C'est la vie, such is life, so it goes
Worse things can happen, heaven knows
This pain in the a##
Will soon enough pass
Regardless of listing of woes

Still, I'm up and I'm here reaching out
It's what this small garden's about
Is anyone there?
Can you hear? Do you care?

*sweeps by, in her vague, elf-like manner, spreading dream dust around her*
