Poor lil feathered mites.

Ok, so I'm a sucker at helping the wildlife.

I frequently put birdseed out for them now that everything is as hard as iron in the grip of winter, not to mention I enjoy seeing them scurrying around pecking the food up.

I love that peculiar kangaroo bounce that they have.

So far the only unusual bird I have seen, and only once - was a female Cardinal very pretty too...and a couple of Blue Jays that shriek to scare the others off just before they land to feed, and of course the ever opportunist crows. No I haven't seen the pigeons lately...

Hard to imagine these descendants of the T-rex...and such like..I wonder if the Dinos were that agile

Today was -14C and they arrived rather late in the afternoon to hunker down on the rooftop. They crouch down as they are eating so as to protect their spindly little legs from the penetrating biting wind which I'm sure is colder than -13 once it's moving around...

It is threatening to get colder still as we head up north later to Maine...snot freezing weather

So yeh that reminds me, I won't be online till ermmm...I don't know when....we are going to Maine as I've just said, and won't be back till Friday 24th...then I have to work the 25th and 26th....and I may be able to steal some time away from eating, drinking and hanging out with family the rest of the time...but I'm not sure.....

So I wish you a Merry Christmas now, just in case....and lots of good eats and drinks...stay healthy..

My friend, as your feathered visitors were facing the -13 C, ours were dealing with -27 C, and wind factors of -40 C. I'm sure I saw tiny battery powered socks on them.

I love feeding the local wildlife. We feed the squirrels nuts and the pondlife grain, and when it gets colder we buy birdseed to scatter around the local area as well.

I thought Scottish midges only attacked us poor foreigners when we are sweltering in the heat on the Isle of Arran ciming about doing geological surveys?

Nope. On Radio Loch Broom they even do Midge Forecasts! Not my idea of 'feeding the wildlife'!!!

I've been admiring the bird life from our bedroom window. We get a great view of them here. This autumn, I even saw a skein of geese honking away in V-formation, heading North. Various corvids like to eat the berries from our hawthorn and elder trees--jackdaws, magpies, rooks and starlings. (Magpies are my favourite birds.) And then there are all sorts of thrushes and tits and wagtails--but the thing that's made me smile the most is the sight of huge numbers of sparrows. I hadn't seen a sparrow for at least ten years before we moved to this new house; but here, the hedges are full of 'em.

And leg warmers should definitely be brought back into fashion! Eminently silly to look at, and practical too.

I found time to throw some seeds across our snowy rooftops this morning, and jeez did they descend from no where...they must have lookouts hidden under the eaves or something..

...still don't know what "splodge" is...

Isn't splodge the same as goo?

Kestrels, swans, crows, pheasants, robins, blackbirds, sparrows.............doink! They all end up over the front of the train.
