I sympathise with you, Vix. I just got turned down for Housing Benefit. (I had to reapply when we moved house.) So I phoned them up to find out why; I don't recall the exact figures now, but the phone conversation went something like this:

"Sorry, you have to be receiving a maximum of £114 per week to be eligible for anything."

"Well, we bring in £90 a week."

"Well, you need to be earning a maximum of £114."

"We get less than that."

"You can apppeal the decision, if you like."

"That is what I am doing."

"I'm sorry, you have to appeal by letter."

"Well, where did you get your figures from?"

"From the accounts you sent us. We counted this, this, and this."

"You've counted the same thing three times over."

"You can appeal the decision if you like."

Oh what a pain SR, I hope you get that sorted

As it is, I've written a letter to the District Director because funnily enuff I can't get thro via phone you have to do it in writing.

They must get so much hate mail.

Yeah, I imagine it'll get sorted eventually. I'm not disappointed, as, like you, I always expect the worst when it comes to bureaucracy. Unlike you, I can cope without it if necessary, by getting help from family members.

But, dammit, I've paid my NI contributions; that's my money they're not letting me have. So I'll keep at them.

Hmm... I wonder how much money is wasted each year by Immigration Office crapness.
