EARTH HOUR 2009

Reading back through this thread, it really highlights the confusion people feel about what to do and how to do it in order to live more sustainably.

Half-baked ideas and unsubstantiated claims fill the mass media about it. Some of us believe some of it and others none of it. No wonder there are still climate change sceptics out there.

The lack of well-communicated scientific discussion is quite depressing. But there is obviously a ground-swell of public interest (dare I say concern?) about our impact on the earth now, which is heartening to see and I hope that people can find advice and guidance which makes a difference.

Over here in South Africa apparently more than a million people observed 'Earth Hour'!

As for 'alternative energy sources' ... the problem is this is such a complex issue. It's not science alone, and even the science part needs input from several different 'fields'. It is confusing and, as such, most people can easily be duped by people who are sufficiently lacking in principles (and DO NOT DOUBT that there are a great deal too many such people in our world) to deceive people and make money even if the 'cost' is that our planet and we with it go down the tubes ...

... in fact you know folks the very severity of the situation ... our future and our children's future and all life on our planet being at stake ... makes people 'ripe' for denial and grasping at any presented 'solutions'.

Jimcracker7[magiclink.rip gone altogether. im back.in my home from home.

what i think people dont realise is that day after day now with new technology that we now do things taken for granted that all add up.
-
how many buy rechargeable battries, and put them on charge, or a lecy toothbrush on charge, the moblie phone, the laptop and on and on,
-
they all add up.
-
i get the cheap throwaway batts, i dont have a pc or mobile phone, have a lecy toothbrush, but dont use it.
-
i have the basic tv, the topbox, a video/dvd combined, a tv/video combined to work with my security cam, and a low energy light on the outside wall at the lowest setting for security.
-
i never have more than two cups of water in the lecy kettle, i cant remember the last time i did toast. smiley - dragon jim
