h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I had a great time at Ceroc last night. We haven’t been for a couple of weeks and I was a little worried that I wouldn’t remember anything (that’s what used to happed when I took a couple of weeks off from Salsa), but the lesson incorporated a couple of moves which we’d already learned so it wasn’t too difficult.

Freestyle dancing afterwards was good fun too. I’m finding it much easier to string moves together in Ceroc than I ever did in Salsa. With Salsa I learned a relatively small number of routines and then ran through them one after another. That’s okay, but it can get repetitive and I always had to have a few beats where I thought of the next routine. With Ceroc we’ve already learned a fairly good selection of moves, all of which are pretty interchangeable as far as I can tell and I’m beginning to improvise my own routines from the moves we’ve been taught in the class.

I’m still struggling a little with the footwork, because there really isn’t any. Even with the limited amount of dancing I did last year, I still expect to have something definite to do with my feet and Ceroc can be a bit vague about things like that. There are no hard and fast rules about what to do with your feet, except that obviously you have to move them about a bit. I find it easier to keep the beat if I’m moving my feet, which is good, but I think that I’m moving them a bit too much and I look more like I’m marching rather than dancing. Anyway, I’m sure I’ll figure it out. And in the meantime I’m having a lot of fun.

Tonight my girlfriend is going to an Anne Summer’s Party with most of the girls from the department. I’ve nothing against these things, but it feels a bit strange knowing that my girlfriend will be looking at lingerie with a bunch of girls who I work with. Anyway, as usual the boys have failed to organise a night of cards or a trip to a lap dancing club while the girls are busy, so I think I’m off to the gym for a long run instead.

As I said before, this weekend my parents are visiting us in Bath so I’ll probably knock off a bit early tomorrow and meet them at the train station. We don’t have any plans yet for the weekend, I guess it depends on the weather. They haven’t seen the Roman Baths yet so that might be on the itinerary, and I guess a nice meal somewhere might be on the cards as well. I’m sure I’ll be writing all about it next week.
