Summer is Here!

I haven’t managed to write about last weekend yet and it’s nearly the weekend again. I’m certainly not going to be able to remember two weekends full of activity so I’d better take the chance to catch up now.
Last Friday I had a quiet night in with a couple of beers and a movie, which was good because Saturday was pretty busy. I went for a run (up a very steep hill) and came into University to do a spot of lab work in the afternoon. In the evening there was a barbeque to celebrate two birthdays which my girlfriend and I went along to. I spent the evening eating, drinking and letting little kids beat me at table football (one of them had to stand on a box so he could reach the table, a distinct handicap). After the barbeque, there was a party up on campus to celebrate another two birthdays, but we didn’t go to that because my girlfriend was running the Cancer Research - Race for Life on Sunday.
On Sunday morning we drove up to campus and I stood in the rain while my girlfriend, her housemates, most of the female chemistry PhD students and various friends, girlfriends and wives ran 5km. Everyone did really well managing to finish the course despite some people being a bit hung-over. My girlfriend finished in about 28 minutes and I was dead proud of her and bought her lunch in the pub later.
The week has been pretty busy with work which means I haven’t really made the most of the nice weather we’ve been having. I went for a couple of beers after work on Tuesday at the bar on campus and then in the evening I went for a stroll along the river with my girlfriend, ending at a pub near my house. But I’m looking forward to a nice quiet weekend. My girlfriend is away visiting her family because her brother is graduating (he passed the exams to become a consultant surgeon!), but I have no real plans myself and think I might just be lazing around in the park reading and such. Hope the weather holds out.
