h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well that last few days have been a bit more active than earlier in the week. As I said, on Monday I went into West Bromwich to have a drink or two with an old friend from Wolverhampton University. It ended up being quite a late night as we stayed out until the pubs threw us out and I foolishly decided to sit up until about three in the morning watching a film.

Tuesday was a bit of a dead day, but on Tuesday night I went out in Wolverhampton for a few drinks with the same guy and another friend from University. This turned out to be an even later night as we ended up jumping around on the tables of a late bar to heavy metal music. I think they threw us out at about half past two and I eventually got home with my head ringing at about three. I didn’t get up until well into the afternoon on Wednesday and decided to have a quiet night in (I must be getting old).

Today I went into Birmingham for a wander round. As I’ve said before, I’m not exactly a huge fan of the city, but I have to accept that they are really making an effort to tidy up the city centre. This means Birmingham is currently composed of equal parts old sixties tower blocks, “funky” new 21st century buildings and scaffolding clad building sites, with a slight peppering of churches and other pre-fifties architecture that have managed to survive the onslaught of modernisation. I’m still not convinced I could ever honestly say I like the place, but at least I think I got a few interesting photographs.

Tonight I shall be heading out to Wolverhampton again for more drinks with yet another friend from University. Hopefully it’ll be a bit quieter than Tuesday night. I don’t think my head can handle any more heavy metal music and besides, my funds are running a little low.

As yet I don’t have any plans for New-Year’s Eve, but I’m normally a bit of a miserable git at New-Year parties so I think I’ll stay in and have a nice meal with my parents; they seem to be content with a quiet one this year as well. I’m going to be heading back to Bath on Sunday (2nd December) and it’d be really nice to get a chance to spend some time with my best friend before I leave, I haven’t had chance to catch up with her yet so hopefully we can do something tomorrow or on New-Year’s Day.
