Really Looking Forward to Christmas.

I guess it’s about time for another entry; it’s actually been rather a busy week. We had our departmental Christmas meal on Wednesday last week: The restaurant was really nice, the food was lovely and everyone had a pretty good time. I did get pretty drunk, but quit fairly early and got plenty of sleep so wasn’t too badly hung over on Thursday.
Then on Friday, despite spending the whole day protesting that I was tired and saying I was going to go home for an early night, I ended up going out for “last Friday before we break up for Christmas” drinks with a bunch of people from the department. The night ended with a kebab and a long walk home at two in the morning when The Huntsman closed.
Once again I managed to avoid a hangover on Saturday. I remember drinking a lot of water before bed and I think the legendary healing powers of the kebab might have had something to do with it as well. The weekend was mostly spent sleeping in late. I did a bit more Christmas shopping and spent a few hours wandering round town with my girlfriend. We watched a couple of movies on television, cooked and ate really excellent sausage and mash and generally chilled out.
This week things really are winding down for Christmas. I’m heading back home to Birmingham on Thursday morning so there isn’t really all that much I can do with the remaining couple of days other than tidy up my fume cupboard, my bench and my desk a little (no small task in itself).
I think tonight we might be having a house meal before we all leave Bath. It probably won’t be turkey and trimmings, which we’re all sure to be getting pretty sick of over the next couple of weeks, but it’ll be nice to have a few beers and some good food with my housemates; lately I’ve been staying over at my girlfriend’s house quite a lot and I don’t feel like I’ve seen much of them.
Tomorrow evening my girlfriend and I are going out for a meal. We’ve got a table booked at The Wife of Bath, a nice cosy little restaurant in town and afterwards if there’s time we’re going to go to the cinema. Since there isn’t really anything either of us want for Christmas it’s going to be a Christmas present to ourselves. And it’ll be quite nice for just the two of us to go out for a real date for a change instead of going out with the rest of the chemistry department like we usually do.
