Christmas 2005 (or A Tale of Two Cities).

As predicted, Christmas day was pretty quiet. I spent the day with my parents, ate and drank plenty of good things, watched television until very late at night and generally relaxed. Consequently I felt quite lethargic this morning and because I didn’t actually leave the house at all yesterday I decided I ought to brave the cold weather and took a trip into Birmingham for a few hours.
I seem to recall saying at Easter when I was last here that Birmingham seems more lively and exciting since I’ve been away and I still feel that way. One of the things I noticed today was that everything has changed again since I was last in the city centre. I remember feeling that one of the things I didn’t like about Birmingham (and big cities in general) was that they were always changing; they were always littered with building sites as if they were never quite finished. But maybe that’s not such a bad thing; after all, shouldn’t a city be a dynamic and changeable place?
I’m heading back to Bath tomorrow, a city that never really changes all that much, but I like the slow paced reliability of Bath. Maybe I love both places for completely opposite reasons. Or maybe I’ve just had a bit too much to drink over the last couple of days I’m not making sense at all. Better to keep your mouth close and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt eh? Think I’ll leave it at that.
