A Not So Wild Weekend.

My girlfriend and I made a mad lunchtime dash into town on Friday lunchtime in an attempt to get hold of some “last minute” tickets for the production of Rebecca at the Theatre Royal on Friday night. Unfortunately we were three people from the head of the queue when they ran out of tickets so we ended up just going for dinner instead. We tried out a lovely new Italian place called Zaza’s which hasn’t been open very long. I may not have mentioned it at the time, but our favourite Italian restaurant in Bath, Trattoria Da Salvo, closed the other month and we’ve been keeping our eyes open for a replacement. Zaza’s is in an old church on Walcot Street, “Bath’s Artisan Quarter,” and looks absolutely stunning. The staff were friendly enough and the food was really lovely, but somehow it just didn’t seem as cosy as Trattoria Da Salvo. Maybe it’s just that we had a few happy memories invested in Trattoria Da Salvo and we need a little time to catch up, but there’s a couple of other restaurants to check out so we’ll see.

We got up as early as we could manage on Saturday morning and caught a train to Bromley to visit my goddaughter for a couple of days. As usual, we had a pretty relaxing time talking and drinking endless cups of tea and coffee and made our way back to Bath on Sunday evening.

Tonight there’s another lecture on campus about archaeological chemistry, but I’m not sure if I’m going to go. After a few days of relaxation at the weekend I think I’m overdue for a nice long run. Tomorrow I think I might go see a movie with my girlfriend; it’s been ages since I last went to the cinema. Then we have another busy weekend planned. On Saturday my girlfriend is having a birthday party. She’s inviting a load of girlfriends to Crockadoodledo to paint and drink wine and then afterwards there’s a dinner party at her house. Once again though I won’t be drinking because it’s the second race in the Team Bath 10K series on Sunday and I have to drag myself up to campus at ten in the morning and be in a reasonable state to run.

Well, this is probably the most succinct entry I’ve written in ages. I’m quite proud of myself. Better post it quick before I think of something else and spoil it.
