A Conversation for Matrix Trilogy
Well packaged

Well packaged is precisely the right description of these films. The best thing of all about the packaging is the way that they incorporate just enough pseudo-philosophical content and quasi-religious imagery to flatter their target audience into believing that they are watching something "deep". That is their most significant achievement. It may be a fine line between profundity and pretentiousness, but "The Matrix" is very firmly on the wrong side of it.
Still, why should the producers worry? No doubt the films made lots of money, which was the whole point.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
