Dear Peter,
I've just sneaked onto this thread as I wasn't sure where to find you with my question. Just hope you see it.
In view of the fact that it is the anniversary of VJ day, also I have three Dutch friends and their experiences are so horrendous. I have been thinking of what happened after the war. I remember the Nuremburg trial of the Nazi war criminals but can't recall anything similar of the Japanese.
I haven't spoken to you for some time. I hope all is well with you and yours.
Best wishes
Elvira.

Hi Elvira

There were Japanes war criminal trials similar to the Nuremburg Trials held in Japan starting in 1946 before the International Military Tribunal for the Far East. The main culprits found guilty were hanged at Sugamo Prison on 23 December 1948.

You will find full details here: http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Tokyo%20War%20Crime%20Trial

That was interesting. Doesn't say though what happened to the sadistic tyrants wielding their power over the women's canps, for instance. Rob
