Part 1 has now been pulled off the site by the moderators for some or other infringement of the rules.

WW2 People's War Team

Sorry to barge in here, but I know the answer to this one! The story was too long (over 3000 words) so it had to wait to be checked by the team before it could go back up. I read it this morning and put it back up but you must have made alterations to it which caused it get hidden again. It should be back there as I write this but if you make any more edits then it will have to go through the same process.

Is there supposed to be an image at the top of the piece? It looks like there's an 'orphaned' caption.

Amazing story by the way!

I did actually edit the item in WORD and the word count was less than 3000 words, but, the offending item is now back on the screen.
Still waiting for my images that are lost in space. See my personal page under (X)

When copying (Ctrl+c) any text from any source or using Word, it is a good idea to paste (Ctrl+v) the text into Notepad; this removes all formatting including all carriage returns. Then copy and paste into this website. Believe me, it takes longer to type this than to do it.

I type anything long into Notepad; if I remember, I then copy and paste into Word for a spell-check then correct the text in Notepad, ready for the final copy and paste here.

Once pasted in, check it in Preview before clicking 'Post Message'

Here's another tip, if in Preview you see broken sentences, like this:

Once upon
a time, I was telling my
sergeant what's
what

To correct these annoying breaks position your mouse pointer at the break and press Backspace. That will get rid ot them, then check in Preview and repost.

In the examples here, the # is where to position your pointer:

Once upon
#a time, I was telling my
#sergeant what's
#what

This saves having to type in your password.

1. Go to your Personal Page.

2. Scroll down to "My WW2 Forums"

3. At the foot, click on "See all Discussions"

4. In the Favourites menu on your browser, click on "Add to Favourites ..."

5. In the Add Favourite window you will see in the Name slot "BBC-WW2 People's War - Forum messages", quite a mouthful. Shorten it to "WW2", or a short title of your choice.

6. Save the favourite.

7. As an added refinement, click on Favourites. Find WW2 (or whatever you have called it) and drag it up to the browser Link bar. It will now be a convenient button on the bar.

I should have explained in the above message that I prefer opening on that Forum page, to immediately see any new postings to forums in which I am involved. But you can make any other page your favourite in the same way.

NB. When you log off do NOT use the "Sign out" button on the top of FrontPage. If you do you will have to sign in again as using this method of exit resets your BBC cookie. Just close the window using the normal browser X button at the top right.

If you know how to manage cookies properly, make sure that your BBC cookie is with those not to be deleted, ensuring it is preserved when you have your regular cookie clear-out. If it is deleted you will have to go through the log-in procedure again. No big deal, but I prefer to make it as simple as possible and let the computer do all the work.
