Rania Dunkirk 1940

Peter

We've created a site to support the restoration of a Dunkirk Little Ship to hopefully get her back to Dunkirk next year for the 65th anniversary.

The site is www.rania.co.uk.

I'd appreciate if you could have a look and let us know what you think.

Where should I put the link on this site as it's not really a war story.

Thanks for your help

Dear Don Yours is a wonderful achievement; uncluttered and tastefully designed, it is everything a website should be. I would recommend http://www.rania.co.uk/ to everyone. On the History Page, however, please reconsider the following points: 1. You say: "Despite fierce resistance from the French army and the 12th & 23rd Divisions of the British expeditionary force (B.E.F.)" There were three Corps in the BEF comprised of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd,4th, 5th, 12th, 23rd, 42nd, 44th, 46th, 48th, 50th, and 51st Infantry Divisions, all with supporting Artillery Regiments and ancillary forces; all were involved in bitter fighting. 2. You say: "By May the 22nd, the German forces of General Guderian crossed the River Scheldt and moved north to encircle the B.E.F and their allies at the Channel ports." Only part of the BEF was encircled there. 3. You state that: "Left behind on the beaches of Dunkirk were some 2,472 guns, 84,427 vehicles of all kinds and 657,000 tons of ammunition." The official figures for material lost (consumed and expended in battle or destroyed or left behind) in France by the BEF, not just at Dunkirk but including the Cherbourg peninsula, are as follows: Guns 2,472 Vehicles 63,879 Motorcycles 21,081 Ammunition 76,697 tons Supplies and Stores 415,940 tons Petrol 164,929 tons You give the impression that the entire BEF was embarked from Dunkirk, that was not the case. This myth dates back to 1940 and is bitterly resented by the survivors and relatives of the thousands of troops who had to fight on. Could you look at these threads: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/F1701707?thread=355569 and http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/F1727800?thread=372667&show=20&skip=0&lpcr=0 Those few points aside, yours is a worthy endevour and I wish you every success. With regard to linking to this site, that is a matter for the BBC WW2 team, not for me. All I can do is draw their attention to your request. Meanwhile, I have linked your site to my own collection of links here http://www.petergh.f2s.com/ Best wishes, Peter
