Hi Marjorie, I posted a story called "Where are they now" covering the events at Cherbourg. We were the last ship to leave. I did not include the following as it may have caused upset and sorrow among the relatives of the KOSB. "While we waited for the demolition team to return to the ship a small platoon of soldiers with a Piper in the lead marched through the awful debris and clutter as if they were on a parade ground. The Captain waved them to come onboard but the officer in charge declined. They had run out of ammunition and they needed a re-supply for themselves and others who were blocking Rommel's advance on the port. We had nothing suitable but there were dozens of supply trucks abandoned and from them they retrieved boxes and boxes of what they needed. The last I saw of them was as they marched back towards the port. Between each two soldiers was carried a box of ammunition and the Piper playing his tune marched ahead of them. I admit tears came to my eyes.I knew we were their last chance of getting home and so did they."
