A vehicle for testing the unsolved problem of failure to render.

I take the opportunity to explain to you the objection I had of your post 12086 SWL: You posted @@@@@@ material on this thread and dedicated it to me [@@@@@@: one needs to click on the link within post 1208] http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/F19585?thread=502685&skip=12085&show=1 After my objection you claimed your motivation for the post was for my benefit and claimed it supported some posts I made on another thread. Yet you didn't withdraw the post after I objected and you then revealed you posted it from a sense of grievance: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/F19585?thread=502685&skip=12103&show=1 then http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/F19585?thread=502685&skip=12105&show=1 It therefore would seem your post was not for my "benefit". If this is indeed the case what then can one conclude regarding the motivation and meaning of your post with its @@@@@@ content? What is slightly more troubling is that the post came from someone with an intimate knowledge of the @@@ @@@ @@@@@@@@@@ @@@: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/F19585?thread=8270234&skip=0&show=2 I shall now [attempt to] address Orcus' comments on the other thread

Can see you in goo but not all of your postings in barlespew

anyway, will leave you to it, I'm not techy so I can't tell you why it happens just that it does

>>Can see you in goo but not all of your postings in barlespew<<

That's already beyond my comprehension smiley - hug

The only labels I think I know at the moment are "beta version" - where the posts render and the "full version" (ipad compatible presumably) where there is a "failure to render". I have tracked down the problem to the addition of url addresses within the post - at least to those that reference posts/pages on H2G2 ... [work in progress]

Peanut there is a failure to render whenever one adds a link to a H2G2 conversation in the "full version" of H2G2. Is there a page on H2G2 that you could direct me to that explains all the different versions of H2G2.

Many thanks

Oh well back to (real) work.

Ok I'm flummexed smiley - erm I can get a guru for you, I think she would be able to explain well. She is called Dr Anthea then I'll come back

Right, I think Dr Anthea will explain stuff better, or someone else is going to heed the distress calls smiley - biggrin

What I can say, I can see this thread perfectly well in goo, and you can in all the other not so pretty 'old skins' not that I have personally looked but I don't think I am wrong in assuming smiley - winkeye

In Barfespew, you get the rendering failure for some posts. It seems to happen frequently.

I think Tarantoes you are experiencing a tech difficultly with Barlespew and it is also frustrating for you on a right to reply level, is that right?

Dr Anthea - ah who needs to learn things... just google it!

ah Hello Tarnatoes,
I am going to assume you are relatively new to the site,
Barlesque has a few (a lot of) teething problems so to resolve these at the moment I am going to suggest that you revert back to using one of the older versions of the site you can do this by clicking on these links

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/U14111780

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/U14111780

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/U14111780

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/plain/U14111780

then choose the one that suits you best,
on many mobile devices and ipods and the like I recommend plain skin as it was specifically developed with these in mind smiley - ok

the h2g2 site will be moving home soon to our new owners, once this happens we hope to be able to rectify the problems with barlesque

Hi thanks for your replies Peanut - you're doubly correct. I explain it here Post No. 4: http://www.bbc.co.uk/user/U284/conversation/view/F75027/T8276224/page/1 So if I am trying to reply with someone using Barlesque then they haven't seen my replies/redress: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/forums/A148907/conversation/view/F19585/T8109802/page/48 Scroll down to the last two posts - "unable to render"

When I referred to the "beta version" I meant the "skin" prior to
Barlesque, and the "full version" I meant the latest "skin" which is
Barlesque. (I shouldn't have said "Beta" and "full" it was
something I read on the "about" Barlesque help link).

Tarantoes- I in no way claim to be an expert on tech issues, but on the whole, simply be aware that barlesque is, basically, rubbish. It has the potential to be really good, but it is jam packed full of bugs at the moment. I recommend using it solely for its front page, and then reverting to one of the older skins if you wish to actually do anything. I have had the -issues with rendering- message myself today. My favourite skin is Brunel, which is www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2, but have a play with the others, see what suits you and come back to barlesque when it has been fixed.
