"Given all the drug references there, I am sure that got misinterpreted."

Anyone would be lucky to get altitude sickness in Snowdonia. I haven't been able to look at our mountains in the same way since I saw the photo of Whitney & friends.smiley - erm Still, they need to be treated with repect. Several people die on them every year, mainly through ignorance. You see people climbing up them in skirts and flip-flops, with no survival gear at all. At least the rescue helicopters here are laid on for free.

Speaking of nutters, have I mentioned that I'm a Free Man of Tryfan? I'm very proud of that. (My little note how one becomes a Free Man of Tryfan: F1961341?thread=541710.)

I should know if I'm prone to altitude sickness soon. Don't think I've been higher than the summit of Snowden (except in a plane) but Cuzco is defnitely higher than that.

I've been outside Europe twice: the first time I was too young to remember much; the second time was for a weekend conference. Whereas you are going to one of the two areas I want to visit most in the world. Ohhh.... smiley - envy When I'm a rich and famous writer, I'll go there.smiley - smiley

(I don't suppose you've got a spare ticket knocking about, have you?)

well it is 1 of the 2 places I most want to visit too, the other being Istanbul which I may get to next year smiley - smiley
bump off my mother and you can go too since 1 of the 'penalties' of being a good son smiley - angel is that I'm going with her
actually this is becoming reminiscent of the plot of that Danny de Vito film smiley - laugh

How's about I just lose her in the middle of Hampton Court Maze or somewhere like that? With a sleeping bag and enough sandwiches to last until we get back?smiley - smiley I'd be a good travelling companion: I'd fight off the big insects for you. (Okay, I'd make friends with them, but I'd keep 'em away from you.)

So anyway, tell me: why are they your most yearned-for destinations?

history there to be seen smiley - smiley
after them lots of places in Iran and Iraq but maybe not a good idea at the present
I'd quite like to go to Tunis to see Carthage but theres not much still standing and its mostly Roman, not Punic
Or Leptis Magna for the worlds best preserved Roman ruins but that is in Libya
Egypt, Spain, Italy all have lots of places I liked to see too

Yeah, Persian architecture is beautiful. I hate what's been done to Baghdad lately.

I'd forgotten you're big on history. What about the Far East? That's got loads of the stuff.smiley - smiley

I shall have to learn more first
I suspect life isn't long enough or rather that I've wasted too much time doing boring unimportant things like work

well I've ocasionally had jobs that haven't been totally tedious or totally purposeless but working in a call centre really does seem both
