Paying for every mile you travel

The government apparently have announced their plans to make the motorist pay tax on every mile they travel. Excuse me, but aren't we not doing that at this present moment in time?
IMHO It's another tax on a tax, thank god the air we breathe is still free..

Actually the general idea makes sense and is one I have been advocating for over three decades. I you – as I did – live in rural Devon or the likes, you are forced to use a car whether you like it or not. Under the present tax system you are paying a fortune to subsidise everyone else. No doub t they will manage it so that everyone pays more but the general idea is right – just the monkeys who implement it but with democracy you get the government you deserve.
PS - interesting that there is a picture of a Strat - designed about the same time as the AK47 and about the only two things the Americans and Soviets designed properly.

Well here's a first, I followed and read most of the conversations with interest on your link B'elana and now actually think differently, I probably only average 12-14000 miles a year so it could benefit me!Oh yeah the strat, I don't see that anymore, so I sort of forgot it was there and for a while wondered what you were referring to James
