My friends are all off to a Hogmanay party and I'm stuck here snuffling and drinking hot'n'sour soup. 
When George came round to collect me I sent him on his way with my apologies and two energy-saving light bulbs. 
Basically, I barely slept last night. My nose closed up completely and my windpipe was restricted by phlegm. 
I gurgled as I breathed in through my mouth and whistled as I breathed out. 
When I finally got up, about 11am (to the extreme annoyance of the 
) my nose had started to clear and I thought there was a chance I'd be fit to attend the party if I followed a strict regime of Lem-Sips and hot toddies. 
But I had my last Lem-Sip about 8pm and by the end I was still drowning in my own mucous.
It's going to be quite a big party, and I suspect quite smoky. That, and the fact there's little chance of my getting a lift home before 9am tomorrow, finally made me realise I'm just not up to it.
So, I'm reduced to spicy drinks and listening to the repeat of "Radio 4 at 40". 
I'll see in the New Year with the cat, and then probably just crash. 
(That's the third time I've had to stop typing to blow my nose...)
I'm recording Graham Norton on BBC1, but apart from that there's not been anything worthwhile on TV. 
And I just found out that my upstairs neighbour is having a party. I just switched off my door buzzer after the second instance of being dragged away from the computer tonight.
